GDA Data

Coastal Feature Viewer

Purpose

The coastal viewer aims to provide spatial data relating to the Coastal Zone (as defined in the Integrated Coastal Management Act, 24 of 2008, as amended) to coastal zone managers and the public, without the need for GIS expertise and software. Here you will find information regarding the Coastal Public Property (CPP) and Coastal Protection Zone (CPZ) to support decision making processes focussing on access to the coast, protecting sensitive coastal ecosystems and protecting people, property and economic activities that may be affected by dynamic coastal processes.

The data is sourced from the relevant provinces, municipalities, custodians and data vendors to inform decision making processes focussing on the sustainable use of coastal resources and promoting coastal management objectives as described in the National Coastal Management Programme of South Africa.

Off Road Vehicle Decision Support tool (ORV DST)

Purpose

The ORV DST aims to assist decision makers involved in the ORV permitting system (in terms of the Control of Use of Vehicles in the Coastal Area regulations, promulgated under the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act, 24 of 2008, as amended), to effectively implement these regulation. The tool helps to provide scientific based recommendations regarding vehicle usage in coastal areas by identifying ecologically sensitive areas. It also provides the Environmental Officers with information regarding the site when planning inspections.

Note: Although the Department tries to keep the information as up to date and accurate as possible, the use of this tool does not eliminate the need for regular site inspections.
