Chief Directorate: National Geo-Spatial Information (NGI)

NGI provides the following data, 1:10 000 orthophoto and 1:50 000 topographic, numerous other smaller scale provincial and national maps, orthorectified imagery, elevation data (including DEMS), vector topographic data as well as raster maps are available digitally.

Chief Surveyor General

The site gives users access to:
  • Computerized map of all land parcels and administrative boundaries in South Africa. 
  • Images of Diagrams, General Plans and Sectional Title Plans. 
  • Information about newly approved General Plans

Municipal Demarcation Board

The Municipal Demarcation Board is responsible for the determination of municipal boundaries. Spatial data for provincial boundaries, district municipalities, local municipalities and wards are available for download rom their website

National Spatial Information Framework

The website of the National Spatial Information Framework ( NSIF ) provides access to a spatial metadata discovery facility. The NSIF co-ordinate the development of infrastructure needed to support the utilization of spatial information in decision making

South African Heritage Resource Agency

SAHRA is a statutory organisation established under the National Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999, as the national administrative body responsible for the protection of South Africa’s cultural heritage.

 
SPISYS

SPISYS is a collaborative initiative between the provincial governments of Free State and Northern Cape and the National Department of Rural Development and Land Reform to enable development through spatial data sharing.

South African National Space Agency (SANSA)

SPOT and LANDSAT imagery for the South Africa and the  SADC region can be downloaded from the SANSA online catalogue.

The Statistics South Africa website gives users access to statistics on economic, labour, utilities, tourism and transport. Registered users can gain access to census data and publications as well as spatial data related to census statistics

BGIS website aims to assist you in biodiversity planning and  decision making by offering comprehensive and freely accessible spatial biodiversity planning information and interactive mapping tools.

Council for Geoscience

The objectives underlying the establishment of the CGS are to develop and publish world-class geoscience knowledge products and to render geoscience-related services to the South African public and industry. The website gives users access to current activities and commercially available data.

CSIR Geoportal

The CSIR Geoportal offers access to more than nine terrabytes  of geospatial and earth observation data which  can be downloaded from their site.

Institute for Soil Climate & Water

The Agricultural Research Council proved itself to be the principal agricultural research institution in South Africa.  The primary mandate of the ARC is to promote  Agriculture and Industry, to contribute to a better  quality of life; and to facilitate and ensure resource conservation.
